What do we do?
We work in partnership with other EBPs, schools,
colleges, Local Authorities and other education and business partners
to help to:
- enhance and enrich science, technology, engineering
and mathematics teaching by putting teachers in touch with appropriate
resources to support curricular and cross-curricular activities,
which reinforce positive learning experiences
- signpost to the STEM Ambassador programme, which
has over 18,000 volunteers from a wide range of STEM backgrounds,
who are all registered, trained, CRB checked and eager to help
teachers deliver exciting teaching and learning activities. The
STEM Ambassador programme also links schools / colleges and companies
/ other organizations that employ STEM educated people in such
a way that young people can get a clear idea of the diverse and
exciting range of careers available to them.
- suport for DCSF-funded After School Science &
Engineering Clubs in the STEMPoint North London area.
We do this by:
- hepling schools / colleges to use the services
outlined in the STEM Directories
- putting schools and colleges in touch with the
London STEM Ambassador programme provider and calendar of events
- providing information, advice and guidance on
the range of STEM activities, schemes and qualifications available
in the area
- proactively communicate, via the local Education
Business Partnerships, this information to schools/ colleges and
Local Authorities in London North
- offer, via the local Education Business Partnerships,
tailored, objective advice to the schools and colleges that we
work with
- put schools and colleges in touch with STEM E&E
(Enhancement & Enrichment) scheme providers
When / where does a STEM activity take place?
STEM activities can take place during lessons, after
school / college and both 'on-site' and 'off-site'. They inlcude
visits from STEM scheme providers as well as visits to STEM scheme
providers, to hospitals, museums, business premises and conferences.
The way you use the resource is completely up to you.
What does a STEM activity look like?
There is no typical STEM activity. Schools / colleges
are encouraged to secure local resources to inspire, inform, support
and challenge their practice in the STEM curriculum are; for example:
- STEM Ambassadors have been used by local schools
to offer career guidance or to act as role models to students
taking Science at AS / A Level
- STEM activities can be used to support school
clubs
- STEM activities have been used to help with STEM
competitions, events and awards
