There are many ways
of helping young people's learning and skills. Here are a few suggestions:
School-based activities
- Acting as
a business adviser / facilitator for student Work Related Learning
or enterprise workshops and activities.
- Giving a
talk to a group of students about your job or organisation, or
taking part in an interview skills programme.
- Becoming a 'Number
Partner' to help build a primary school pupil's basic numeracy skills.
Visits to
Businesses / Work Experience placements
Offering workplace visits (lasting from a hour
or so to a day) to pupils / students.
- Offering
half-day or 1-day visits to education staff / careers advisers.
- Providing
Work Experience placements, either for two-week blocks or on a
1-day-a-week basis, for students.
Further types
of involvement
- Encouraging company
staff to visit schools.

- Sponsoring curriculum
development grants, awards, prizes, or a book for the school library.
- Providing resources
/ sharing resources on a reciprocal basis.
- Becoming a school
/ college governor.
